My name is Joanne Marcinek.  I am a mom of a young adult who has been given a variety of diagnoses, what they are don’t really matter. What matters is that he has, over the years, needed help and support to live his life to the fullest. And never more so than in the last 5 years as he entered the “transition years” (15 – 21) when the special education departments of schools are trying to move students Out of the System as quickly as possible.

I have created this website to help other parents avoid some of the pitfalls we experienced and learn how to ask better questions to get the most appropriate programs in place to help their students transition successfully to independence.  It is my hope that the friends in my “posse” and in my larger community will also share their experiences here. My goal is to provide relevant information to families so they can ask the right questions to help their student successfully transition from Special Education to adult independence.
